ABOUT

Cartamara is masterminded by Marta Manara and brought to life with the help of her faithful Oompa Loompas.

Marta was born in a small town near Verona into a family that taught her to respect nature, people, and objects too. Her grandmother was a seamstress and had the healthy habit of not throwing anything away.

After attending art school, and then fashion and tailoring academy, she started focusing on her own projects. She recently took an interest in collages, which she creates from vintage magazines, and where she can express themes that are dear to her, like nature, sexuality, urban spaces, animals and emotions.

She combines her interest in art and fashion by selecting vintage clothes and printing or sewing collages onto them. Here lies the ultimate meaning of her work, which intends to preserve and recycle existing objects (magazine and clothes) but at the same time renew them with new ideas and energies.

Marta now splits her time between Berlin and Verona. Of course the Oompa Loompas follow her around, whenever pandemics allow them.

THE PROCESS

Marta's design process is very personal,

combining thorough reflection with unplanned intuition.
